Our Story
Back in 2015, best friends Doug and Billy founded The GAN Group with a simple mission; to create spaces that bring residents dignity and a purpose. And when it comes to the acquisition, development, and construction of our multi-family and senior living communities, we’re heavily involved at every stage to fulfill that mission.
We have a proven track record of managing projects on time and on budget, maximizing our investors’ profits. We owe this success to our extensive architectural and construction experience, along with our meticulous attention to detail with every project.
In Hebrew, the word “Gan” means “God’s Garden.” This term resonates with us because for a garden to bear fruit; it needs the right seeds, a solid foundation, and careful tending to. We see real estate development the same way and enjoy taking the seed of an idea and watching it grow into something beautiful.
If you’re an investor who’d like to partner with us for one of our upcoming projects, we’d love to hear from you. Please get in touch below.
The Dynamic Duo Behind The GAN Group
Doug Martine
Director of Development
Getting to conduct the orchestra of properties, vendors, and contractors to create fantastic finished results is what Doug lives for. (That and his adoring four kids, beautiful wife, and the Aggie football team, of course.)
Doug is our numbers guy and is primarily responsible for the assessment and acquisition of new projects and the attentive management of new developments.
A native Texan residing in San Antonio, Doug holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Science from Texas A&M University and has over two decades of experience in the construction and real estate development world.
This hard-earned expertise makes him the perfect man to help teams navigate the complex challenges of developing and acquiring new projects.
Doug’s Not-So-Secret Past
Before co-founding The GAN Group, Doug was a project manager for Buford-Thompson Company and a senior project manager for Joeris General Contractors specializing in every genre of commercial construction, including retail, industrial, hospitality, and education.
In 2006, he founded Martine Consulting, LLC, a real estate development management company, providing project management and site assessment services for developers, banks, and investors throughout the country.
Doug holds a Registered Accessibility Specialist (RAS) license with the state of Texas, allowing him to perform state required accessibility inspections and reports.
Doug’s Other Passions
When he’s not hanging out with his awesome family or catching the latest Aggie game, Doug can be found doing classic “outdoorsy” things like hunting, fishing, and camping.
Billy Johnson
Director of Operations
A busy father of adult triplets (and subsequent best multitasker), Billy is the architectural brains behind our projects. It’s his incredible foresight that pushes us to create developments with our future tenants in mind.
He diligently manages all aspects of construction, including scheduling, cost management, and quality control, and is responsible for retaining project consultants and evaluating/executing our Construction Contracts.
A proud San Antonio native, Billy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture from The University of Texas at Arlington and has been practicing architecture since 1991; focusing on residential, commercial, office, institutional, multi-family architectural design, and construction management.
His extensive experience in managing and directing the architectural and general construction process makes him an invaluable asset to The GAN Group and the perfect sidekick to Doug’s talents.
Billy’s Not-So-Secret Past
Before co-founding our company, Billy served as a partner with architectural firm Lake/Flato Architects. While there, he was involved with projects across the United States.
In 2005, Lake/Flato Architects won the Prestigious Firm of the Year Award given to the Best Architectural firm in the US. A year later, he founded his firm, Studio Industrielle, LLC – an Architectural Design/build firm specializing in large ranch estates, private schools, offices, and municipal buildings.
Billy’s Other Passions
As a self-professed “Sophisticated Redneck”, Billy enjoys attending the opera, theatre and museums, but is also known to kick it down at the rodeo and spend his days out in nature.
